Nancy Pelosi, 84, Fractures Hip in Fall on Marble Stairs During Overseas Trip
Bipartisan Trip Takes a Dramatic Turn as Former Speaker Pelosi Suffers a Hip Fracture, Highlighting Recent Health Concerns Among Senior Lawmakers
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, suffered a serious injury after falling down marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg during an official visit. The California representative was part of a bipartisan delegation marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge when the incident occurred. Pelosi was rushed to the hospital, where sources revealed she had fractured her hip and will require a "routine operation." Her spokesperson, Ian Krager, confirmed, “Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment and remains engaged in her work, looking forward to returning home soon.”
The fall comes just days after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 82, experienced a health scare at a GOP lunch. Hours before her injury, Pelosi was photographed holding the hand of Republican lawmaker Michael McCaul during a ceremony in Luxembourg. The delegation, which also planned to visit Belgium, canceled all remaining events after the accident.
Pelosi’s office described the trip as personally meaningful, with many attendees, including Pelosi herself, having family connections to World War II veterans. Despite stepping down from her leadership role two years ago, Pelosi was recently re-elected to represent her San Francisco district, underscoring her enduring commitment to public service.
